Les Gradick, the owner
of our station, who knows most
everything, did not know about
this birthday bio. He does now,
of course. You can't hide a
great page like this for long!
It's here because we're fond of
him, and his family. And, of
course here at the Country
Club, we're all one great big
family anyway.Les was born in
1927 and grew up in Spartanburg,
SC. He went to Georgia Tech and
majored in electrical
engineering. He served in the
U.S. Navy during the Korean war.
In 1964 Les and family, (wife
and two kids) moved to Rome
Georgia where he owned radio
stations in Rome and Rockmart.
In the late 60's, Les picked up
the flying bug and purchased a
Cessna Skymaster twin, which he
claims will fly forwards and
backwards due to the unusual
propeller design and which he
still owns and flies to
this day.
In the 80's Les and company
moved to Beaufort, SC to work as
an engineer for a Christian
Scientist station that
broadcasts worldwide. Then, as
engineers sometimes do, he
hopped into his Skymaster
and moved yet again back to
Georgia in the mid 90's,
eventually landing in
Jacksonville, Alabama
and purchasing Alabama 810.
Rumor has it there may be more
radio stations in Les' future.
Airplanes too, maybe. |
